After The Fact

Now that this project has concluded, what are some of your thoughts on it? The story did grow lot over the semester, what were some of your favorite moments, or scenes?

  1. One of my favorite parts was watching the story grow. In the beginning, we all had an idea of how we thought it was going to play out. By the end, it had really evolved into something different than we started with. This forced us to rethink the resolution, which was a challenge. But in the end, I think we ended up with a story better than if we had kept ourselves to a rigid outline.

  2. One of my favorite moments was the first day we began writing together in class. It was like watching this eighteen headed monster come to life. Everyone was typing away on their lap tops. People were shouting across the room to one another, asking for help and offering suggestions. Very exciting!

I also-in a strange way-liked the moments when we got bogged down and had to struggle to find original solutions. For instance, after the first week of tweeting, the writing was coming in fits and starts and David suggested that the team should be assigned to write particular days instead of particular characters. This meant, they would be responsible for a specific scene, rather than spreading their work out over an entire week and responding to prompts that other people had yet to respond to. That one change made a big difference and really streamlined the process.

There were also some interesting mistakes that emerged, for instance, when we started tweeting things like @Jordan and Twitter then linked the tweets to some guy in Paris. We then realized we had to create specific profiles for our character so this wouldn't happen, which wound up adding another layer of depth to the narrative.

Finally, I really liked all of the multi-media bells and whistles we added: Sara's newspaper article, Gibran's animation, David's cell phone footage, John's men's room radio-play, and Chris' photoshopped panties. Some very inspired embellishments!

  3. I think we ended it the exact way it should have. Utterly incredible effort by all. OUTSTANDING.
